Introduction

Litchi chinensis, commonly known as lychee, is an evergreen tropical fruit tree in the family Sapindaceae, closely related to longan (Dimocarpus longan) and rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum). Celebrated for its fragrant, juicy arils and distinctive red, textured fruit, lychee ranks among the world’s finest subtropical fruits. It combines exceptional ornamental appeal with high commercial value, making it a favorite among collectors, home gardeners, and commercial growers alike.

Native to southern China and northern Vietnam, Litchi chinensis has been cultivated for more than two millennia.
