Common Knowledge

Scientific Name: Durio oxleyanus Griff.
Common Names: Oxley’s Durian, Isu, Sukang Durian, Durian Beludu
Native Range: Borneo, Sumatra, and Peninsular Malaysia
Family: Malvaceae

Flavor

The flesh is richly aromatic with a refined sweetness that is gentler than common durian. Its smooth, creamy, and notably juicy texture carries hints of custard, honey, fresh butter, and subtle tropical florals. The finish is clean, with only a delicate trace of the classic durian character.

Growth Habit

A tall emergent rainforest tree naturally occupying the upper canopy of humid lowland tropical forests. It thrives in consistently warm, moisture-rich environments with filtered light when young, gradually adapting to greater sun exposure as the canopy develops.

Cultivation

Best cultivated in deep, fertile, well-drained soils with consistently high humidity, abundant moisture, and year-round warmth. Avoid prolonged drought, waterlogged conditions, and exposure to cold or drying winds.
