Common Knowledge
Scientific Name: Amorphophallus discophorus
Common Names: Disc-Bearing Titan Arum, Rare Aroid
Native Range: Tropical Southeast Asia
Family: Araceae
Flavor
The fruiting structures are rarely encountered in cultivation and are primarily valued for botanical interest rather than culinary use. Like many Amorphophallus, the species is admired more for its architectural foliage and unusual inflorescence than for edible qualities.
Growth Habit
A terrestrial tuberous aroid inhabiting humid tropical forest understories with filtered light and consistently warm conditions. It produces a solitary, elegantly divided leaf above a dormant underground tuber.
Cultivation
Thrives in rich, fast-draining organic media with high humidity and regular moisture during active growth. Avoid waterlogged soil during dormancy, as excessive moisture may induce tuber rot.
